Kirschner wires

Kirschner wires (K-wires) are metal wires used in orthopedic surgery to stabilize bones. They are pointed, stainless steel wires that are used in various internal fixation procedures:

  • Temporary stabilization before performing definitive osteosynthesis;

    • Extra-thin wires are suitable for fixing small bones (e.g. wrist bones or children’s skeletons).

  • Combined fixation with plates and screws in the treatment of complex fractures.

  • Fixation in patients with low bone density (osteoporosis) when the stability of the tightening screws in the bone is insufficient.
