Product description
Cutimed® Epiona® is a wound dressing for local interactive wound treatment. Cutimed® Epiona® is a sterile, lyophilized matrix consisting of collagen (90%) and calcium alginate (10%). The naturally structured collagen fibers form a three-dimensional open-pore matrix. The collagen is obtained from bovine dermis and consists of collagen types I, III and V. Due to its good moisture stability when wetted and its elasticity, Cutimed® Epiona® can be easily applied to the wound. Cutimed® Epiona® does not contain chemical crosslinking agents. Cutimed® Epiona® also stands out for its hemostatic properties. Cutimed® Epiona® promotes wound healing, is soft and easy to shape, and has good absorption capacity.
Indications
Cutimed® Epiona® is indicated for the treatment of all wounds that heal by secondary intention and are free of necrotic tissue, such as:
- Diabetic ulcers
- Venous ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Ulcers of mixed vascular etiology
- Traumatic wounds and surgical wounds
- Second-degree burns
Mechanism of action
The open pore structure of Cutimed® Epiona® provides high capillary action, making it particularly suitable for the absorption of wound fluid. Along with the absorption of wound exudate, debris, bacteria and fibrin coatings, inflammatory proteases and cytokines are also retained. This supports and accelerates the formation of granulation tissue. The migration of fibroblasts is promoted and collagen synthesis is stimulated. By providing the wound defect with high-quality collagen during the granulation phase and the beginning of the epithelialization phase, the neosynthesis of the body’s collagen fibrils and fibers is supported. The necessary proliferation and migration of epidermal cells is supported when forming the wound bed. Cutimed® Epiona® can thus be applied to the surface of moderately bleeding wounds.
